About the Photographer

Louis Sahuc is a freelance photographer, French Quarter resident and preservationist. As a young boy, riding around the city with his father in the 1940’s and 50’s, Louis fell in love with New Orleans. Since 1972, he has been making award-winning photographs for advertising, fashion, architecture, corporate, editorial and private clients. But, between commercial assignments, his main focus has been to share his vision of a place he loves and a world he’d like to see with the photographs he makes. “I’ve always liked the idea and power of communicating with images”, he says. “It’s a universal language.”

Louis opened PHOTO WORKS in 1995 and began to show an on-going body of work that preserves the architecture and uniqueness of life in the French Quarter, an irreplaceable treasure. These photographs are timeless visual vignettes that evoke feelings and stories of what it is like to live in this special place now, were in the past and hopefully will be in the future.

“Composition is everything. I learned to make the image in the camera so these are all full frame prints. Any one can recompose an image afterwards,” Louis says. Louis gives us just enough visual information to make our mind react and declare: this is the true New Orleans and always will be.
